UPDATE: IMATS then Face and Body show...

Yesterday in the mail I opened an envelop that had a golden ticket in it, well for me its a golden ticket, to the IMATS in LA for June 27 & 28th. I bought my ticket about 6 months ago and I can not wait until that weekend. I have been putting money aside from makeup appointments I have had and hair appointments for the past couple months so when Im at IMATS I can buy things not only for my makeup kit but for MYSELF! Im overwhelmed with excitement, not only for the products and companies that will be there but the education I will get from there! I never want to stop learning tips and tricks because to stop my education for my career will only out date my skills as an MUA. I cant wait!! :)

Face and Body Show

July is going to be a fun month! I will be graduating from esthetician school, turning 23 and attending The Face and Body Show in San Jose CA. I am also excited for this show because as much as i love makeup, I love products for my skin!! Like i said earlier i will be graduating from Esthetician school so i need to know the go to and the NOT to go to products for myself and my clients! In both Makeup and Esthetics career's i want to be well rounded and knowledgeable these Two shows are on my highlights for my summer!! i cant wait to attend both and learn and try new products!!!

I know today wasn't much about makeup or skin but i wanted to share my excitement! I also cant wait to do reviews and a haul of what will be purchased by me!! June and July cant come any faster!!!

Makeup info Tuesday. How clean is your makeup?

Sometimes we do not have enough time in the morning to clean every inch of our area where we apply makeup or our brushes and/or our makeup. Clean our makeup?! how do we do that?! do we need to do that?! these are questions I have asked myself many times. You hear about the dreaded Pink Eye and other gross germs being passed through makeup between friends, or if you do makeup for a living pass germs between clients. Yes you can clean your makeup and protect yourself and whoever uses your eye makeup and powders. Think of it like this, when you open your eyeshadow, mascara, foundation or powders and touch them to see the color or your first application you just started the clock of its expiration and for germs to sit in it.  There are a few steps you can take to protect yourself from germs that pile up on your make up or your brushes.

Go through your makeup look through them and see which ones do not smell or look like they should. Most press powders are easy to see bacteria on them, if there is an oily or wet look around the edge of the press powder or on the powder that means the oils and bacteria is sitting on it. Any products that have missing caps or broken container just toss it, the makeup has been oxidizing and bacteria has been growing specially if its liquid and has moisture. Weekly maintenance is easier then semiannuale up keeping.

Cleaning your brushes is very important, I like to spot clean my brushes after use then deep cleaning them at least once a week. I refuse to be the MUA that gave a client pink eye! Good brushes can last your several years. A lot of brush cleaners out there help spot clean and extend the life of your brushes. Brush cleaners are solutions that can be sprayed on the hairs of your brushes and clean them off, also many if not all bush cleaners are anti-bacterial. To deep clean brushes I like to do a few things, I first cleanse ONLY THE TIPS OF MY BRUSHES, if you get water or any solution in the metal piece that hold the brush hairs and the wood part together it can loosen your tips and erode your brushes, I cleanse first with Extra Virgin Olive oil and then rinse with baby shampoo until product is washed off, last step is spray brush cleanser on my brushes and let them fully dry.  You don't have to deep clean if it seems too much but it will benefit your makeup kit to do so. At lease purchase a brush cleaner, I like MAC brush cleanser. Do your research you can go to target and get Sonia Kashuk brush cleanser, try and see which one will work for you.

When it comes to your eye shadows and powders you can clean them off with simply putting sanitizer on a tissue and clean off the top of your makeup. What i have purchased is a product called "BEAUTY SO CLEAN" and its basically a sanitizer for any makeup product. it comes in wipes and a spray bottle. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! Whenever Im done with a makeup application i hold my bottle 6 inches away from the makeup that was used and pray once and on to the next product. Fast spot cleaner for makeup. You can purchase this on a website called www.frendsbeautysupply.com and search beauty so clean.

You should get rid of any makeup that's past its expiration date. How do you know when its past expiration date? here is a time line to look for:

Liquid/cream foundation- 2years
Concealer- 2 years
Powder- 2 years
Mascara- 6 months
Lipstick- 12 months or a little past 12 months
Lip/eye pencils- 12 months or a little past 12 months
Eye shadow- 2 years
Powder blush- 2 years
Cream blush- 2 years

Face/ skin products: Always look on the bottle or product for an expiration date!!! very important. for make up they do not put an expiration date but for face/skin products have expiration dates on them

Moisturizer- 2 years or look on the bottle for an expiration date.
Eye cream- 6 months or look on the bottle for an expiration date.
Sunscreen- 2 years or look on the bottle or an expiration date.
Face creams- 2 years or look on the bottle for an expiration date.

Just some information I wanted to share to help keep your makeup as clean as you can keep it. Your eyes and face is very easy to protect and very easy to infect at the same time. If you keep wondering why your breaking out or having irritation on your face, elimination process should be done. Eliminate makeup for a couple days see if thats the problem and if it is most likely its your brushes that need to bee cleaned. Look at your face products see if what's in it and if its expired because maybe just maybe your skin is telling you STOP USING THIS! Clean your makeup and see if it makes a difference. Go through your face products and see what and what doesnt work for you and what you should throw out. Do not be afraid to throw out your makeup and face product because its better to throw them out then keep using them if they are irritating and infectious to your skin. Beauty is pain but not infectious germs! Do what i do when i throw out makeup and face products, its an excuse to buy more makeup!! :)

Dots, dots, dots and more dots!!!!

Ever since I was a teen I loved getting my nails done and having designs on them, when I started the esthetician program I had to keep my nails short and clean. Now instead of getting long acrylic nails, I have gotten obsessed with doing my own manicures. Since manicures only last for a week on my nails I do my own. I try and get creative and do my own designs but I have come to see that I LOVE putting dots over my polish just to make them fun! :) Here is a sample of black nail polish with gold dots. Real easy!

Products Used:
(All supplies where purchased at Sally's Beauty Supplies, but you can get any polish anywhere)
-Nail Life Gripper, which is a base coat to protect your nails from getting stained or yellow from color polish.
-Orly Nail Lacquer: GOTH
-Orly Nail Lacquer: GLITZ
-Any clear coat will do, to protect the color and keep the polish shinny
-A tooth pick or a nail design tool

Procedure:
Before applying polish trim your nails and file neatly.

Apply Base coat then let dry

Apply Goth over base coat, i like to put 2-3 coats to have an even color and then let dry completely.

Take a tooth pick or as i did i bought a nail design pick from Sally's Beauty Supplies with on tip a thin brush and the other a circle tip.

Take GLITZ and take a drop of color and put it on a piece of paper, then take your tooth pick or design tool and dip the round tip of it the GLITZ color on the piece of paper.

Now have fun and apply dots however you want on your nail color. Put it on one side of your nail or like me, ALL OVER! :)

Now after letting the dots dry apply Clear coat and dry. Have fun, use colors you want and sometimes you find color combo's you think would not look good end up looking amazing. Just enjoy and try different designs just to have fun. Its a great way of letting your creativity take over!!! Enjoy!

Beauty in the kitchen

When I was a little girl watching TV shows or movies where the women had a clay mask on and hanging around would make me want to do the same. Watching them pamper themselves with painting their nails and giving themselves facials look so fun. When i got to the age of playing with cosmetics and skin products i went straight to facial masks. going to school to become and esthetician now has made me understand the concept of masks and have seen great results in them. Unfortunately I now see how little they are used. It maybe that it can be time consuming but I LOVE MASKS!  Finding the right mask for your skin type is the most important factor, once you do your ready to go! I have a couple yummy recipes to feed your face, both are for all skin types and can be made at home. Both are worth trying, if you never try something out you will never really know if it was for you or not. i love both results and if your a "home maker" or a wanna be home maker like me this is for you! :)

EGG WHITES AND YOGART MASK: super easy!!

This mask helps keep the skin glowing and tight. Egg whites help with firming, although not permanently, they help narrow pores and has become great for a base mix for facial masks. There are also good cleansing and acne fighting qualities that many many people will swear their life on, not scientifically proven but results are results. The probiotics in yogurt that works well in our bodies work just as well topically.  Helps the skin feel softer and smoother also helps lessen breakouts. Not only will the anitbacterial, antifungal from yogurt rid your skin of impurities, the lactic acid also will tighten your complexion.

Ingredients:
2 Egg whites, Separate the yolk from the egg whites and place the egg whites in a bowl.
2 tablespoon of yogurt, i like to use greek plain yogurt

mix well and the look of it will be clear and runny, apply to full face and even on your neck if you wish, leave on for 5 minutes. rinse with warm water or what i like to do is place a towel in warm water and apply warm towel on my face and gently wipe off mask. applying a warm towel on your face before removing the mask helps the mask penetrate into skin.

HONEY-AVOCADO TONING MASK: A bit more time consuming and will not keep for more than 3-4 days but leaves your skin feeling sooooooooo soft!

This mask cleanses, tones and helps tighten the skin. Can be used for all skin types. The buttery avocado penetrates skin, specially helpful for aging skin, and leaves it glowing. Grapes used in this mask Softens and moisturize skin, the mayonnaise tones and soothes and the baking soda helps with deep cleansing but gentle enough for sensitive skin.

Ingredients:

1/2 avocado (dont forget to peel and pit)
3 seedless grapes
1 whole egg
1 teaspoon mayonnaise
1 teaspoon of honey
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon lemon extract
1 teaspoon lime extract

Mash up avocado and then add one grape at a time until mixed smooth. Once smooth add remaining ingredients and blend until fully mixed. Consistency will become smooth, somewhat like a very smooth paste. Apply to face for 10-15 minutes and wash off with warm water or warm towel. what i like to do is apply a warm damp towel on my face and gently removing the mask. The warm towel help the mask penetrate the skin before removing. Since this product does not have preservatives in it, it will not keep for more then 3 days. It will make 1/2 a cup and keep covered and refrigerated. trow it away after 3-4 days.

Have fun with this, Experiment and find what works for you. Masks are a great way to feed, hydrate, cleanse your skin. Work with masks made for your skin type and if you are not sure what type your skin is, look for one for all skin types. Pamper yourself with out the big bucks and just open your fridge and find your new skin care regimen! ;)

Beauty buy of the week....

As I go around trying to fix my cosmetic fix i cant nor want to buy anything. I go to Macys even MAC and didn't feel like buying anything to update my makeup kit. Thinking of my future shoots for the month and the looks I am trying to go for I still can find myself buying anything! I'm looking, matter fact I am hunting for something but do not know exactly what. Making my husband hold my purse while I try and force myself to buy this....buy that.... he looks at me as if I am  a mad woman, which i do not doubt I'm looking like, still nothing. I give in and go to Sephora, thinking to myself i HAVE to find something in there!!! and I do! Although they did not have the MakeUp Forever Flash pallet i wanted i still bought some eye shadows and Makeup Forever paint pots, which is like the flash pallet but more cash to buy the colors separately. What made me happy was that i bought 3 eye shadows and i got a free empty pallet that they fit into! That was a plus and i left feeling happy but still not satisfied nor happy that i just spent a lot for so little but hey its for work gotta get what works!

On the way home my husband and i stop at a shopping center and i find a costume/dance/theater store. I go with no hesitation and not thinking it would benefit me, i was wrong! I got more then i expected and for A LOT cheaper! i got Ben Ney pallets and Kryolan pallets and lashes. for under $100.

Okay i came up on this little store but still wont complain about my buy in Sephora because  i got a free pallet. so today was a good buy. now ben ney and Kryolan are great for theater AND everyday AND photo shoots!! So is Makeup Forever, a great cosmetic line made for the everyday women and also good for shoots and all that. Days like this goes to show you that treasures can be found all over you just have to open your mind and go explore. Now i know where to go for good makeup designed for the work i do but since its not ALL about makeup in that store i shall be stopping by Sephora and Macys and MAC. I Love working with new and different products because exploring and finding hits and misses makes you better at the job you do.

just wanted to share my beauty buy of the week..... will be posting up swatches soooon! and some looks im thinking about doing!!!!!! have a beautiful day!!!!
